HERTALAN® | Test report University of Applied Sciences

By commision of Carlisle® Construction Materials bv, the German Institute of Horticulture, UAS Weihenstephan has tested HERTALAN® roofing products on resistance to root penetration. After a 2 year during intensive testing period the results are finally known.

Both of our roofing products, hertalan easy cover and hertalan easy weld have been tested.

TEST FACILITY AND PROCEDURE

The 2 year lasting test was carried out in accordance with EN 13948:2007. The test was carried out between July 2012 and July 2014 comprising 2 containers equipped with the flexible EPDM sheets. Another 2 containers without sheets were serving as control that enables the comparison of the plant development in the different containers. All joints of the sheets were factory-made by Carlisle® Construction Materials bv. The sheets were installed into the containers at the test sit of the Institute of Horticulture, University of Applied Sciences by Carlisle® Construction Materials bv. The containers were filled with growing substrate and installed into a climate-controlled glass house. The final inspection included the recording of any root penetration into and through the flexible sheets.

TEST RESULTS

At the end of the test period the containers were emptied for a detailed check of the flexible sheets hertalan easy cover  and hertalan easy weld  for root penetration and perforation.

The surface and the joints of the flexible sheets did not show any penetrations or perforations caused by roots after the two-year test period.
